The clinics for the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine in Iqaluit will be expanding starting on Jan 21. and additional populations will now be eligible to receive it.
Vaccinations for the following identified groups will now be able to get vaccinated at Iqaluit Public Health from Monday through Friday 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturdays at the Qikiqtani General Hospital 10 a.m. to 4p.m.:
- Frontline healthcare workers and first responders
- Medevac flight crews
- Residents and staff of group homes, and the Akausisarvik Mental Health Treatment Centre
- Residents and staff at correctional facilities
- Vaccinations for Elders 65 plus and shelter residents will also continue beyond last weeks clinics
This will continue until Jan. 30, those eligible are asked to call 867-975-4810 to make an appointment. The Department of Health asks that people "please wear a mask" to their appointments.
Additional community clinics have also been announced for the following:
- Grise Fiord, Jan. 23 and 24, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Health Centre. To make an appointment call 867-980-9923
- Resolute, Jan. 22. 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Jan 23 10 a.m. Jan. 25 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Health Centre. To make an appointment call 867-252-3844
- Kugaaruk, Feb. 4 and 5, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Arviligruaq Ilinniarvik School. To make an appointment call 867-769-6441
- Baker Lake's clinics scheduled for Jan. 25 to 28 have been expanded from elders 65 plus to all adults 45 and older
During a false positive scare in Iqaluit on Jan. 20 Nunavut’s chief public health officer Dr. Michael Patterson maintained that people must stay vigilant and to follow the current public health measures in place and encouraged people to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
Anyone who has reason to believe they have been exposed to Covid-19 is advised to call the Covid-hotline at 1-888-975-8601 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. EST, or notify their community health centre right away, and immediately isolate at home for 14 days. Please do not go to the health centre in person.
