A winter clothing and accessories drive was held in downtown Iqaluit on Oct. 25 and 26 to support community members in need.
This event was the result of a tremendous community effort organized by Carrefour Nunavut, distributing more than 1,000 items collected over the previous month.
The event was held at the Sailijaaqvik Boarding Home and the Qajuqturvik Community Food Centre — the use of both venues was donated in joint effort with Carrefour.
"This was part of 'A Solidarity Effort for Lasting Impact' for the second consecutive year," said Cedric Samy Yann Kann, communications and administration manager for Carrefour Nunavut. "The project encourages solidarity while reducing waste by giving a second life to items that are often new or rarely used. These clothes and accessories, which might otherwise have ended up in landfills, now serve a valuable purpose for those who need them... the generosity of our community members exceeded all expectations, and we were fortunate to receive hundreds of varied donations. More than 100 people benefited from these contributions."
