While the temperature might be chilly, Chesterfield Inlet is a warm place to be over the holidays.
Glen Brocklebank and his family stopped spending their holiday Christmas season in the south more than a decade ago.
Brocklebank said the hamlet holds holiday games at the community complex in Chester.
Russell Mullins, Chesterfield Inlet's recreation co-coordinator, was going through prizes faster on Thursday, Jan. 2, than he had during most years previously.
“Santa was at the school for the Christmas concert and then Santa came to the Northern Store and then made an appearance at the Co-op," said Brocklebank.
“In fact, Santa was kept quite busy during his time in Chester. There's lots of games played and Christmas mass, which lots of people go to.
“There's lots of visiting. I wouldn't say there's anything distinctly Chester, but it is a friendly time of the year in the community.”
Chesterfield Inlet is well-known for its going all out to celebrate on New Year's Eve.
Brocklebank said in 2024, his family brought his wife Ana's parents to the community to help ring in the new year. He said new year's is really fun there. The community had a parade, played games and took part in the yearly countdown.
“We all left the community hall and went outside to launch fireworks. Chesterfield Inlet is the only place that I want to be during new year's."
