Four girls in Taloyoak are scheduled to answer to a charge of arson in court on July 14 after the old Home Economics building caught fire during the early evening of June 8.

The accused are all between the ages of 12 and 14.

There were no reported injuries in this incident.

The Taloyoak Fire Department was able to extinguish the blaze.

“The Taloyoak RCMP would like to thank the local fire department and hamlet workers on the water truck for their quick response and hard work in getting the fire under control and preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings," said Cpl. Mark Pillsworth of the Taloyoak RCMP. "We would also like to thank members of the community who able to provide critical information to the RCMP.

"Arson is very damaging to small communities where resources are scarce. We would also encourage the public to always report any suspicious activity to the RCMP and parents to speak with their children in regards to fire safety and the dangers of playing with matches and lighters,” Pillsworth added.
