Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK) and the Arctic Inspiration Prize (AIP) have announced a new partnership.
The 15th Tapiriit, an annual Inuit-led networking event, and the 13th Annual AIP Awards Ceremony will now take place on May 13.
“Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami is happy to join AIP in Ottawa to bring together two celebrations highlighting Inuit and Arctic excellence,” said ITK President Natan Obed. “Tapiriit means united, and we look forward to sharing Inuit Nunangat stories and traditions with our friends again this year.”
Tapiriit, formerly known as A Taste of the Arctic, will take place at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa from 6-10 p.m. on May 13. Visit Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami on Facebook or at www.itk.ca/tapiriit to learn more about the event, including this year’s lineup and when tickets go on sale.
The AIP 13th Annual Awards ceremony will take place at Rogers Centre in Ottawa at 2 p.m. the same day. More information about the AIP ceremony, including how to access tickets and this year’s scheduled performers, will be made public in the near future. Additionally, nominations for the AIP are now being accepted until Feb. 24.
There are two prize categories this year: $1 million (one prize for one team) and AIP (up to $500,000 to four teams). There is also the Arctic Inspiration Youth Prize for youth-led teams, where a maximum of seven teams could take home up to $100,000. “The AIP is thrilled to be partnering with ITK to showcase the incredible innovation and ingenuity of the North at this year’s 13th annual Arctic Inspiration Prize Ceremony," said Wally Schumann, chair of the AIP Trust. "This is such a wonderful opportunity for Canadians from North and south to join in celebrating what’s possible when communities dream big about their futures. And with $3.7 million up for grabs, we can’t wait to see what innovative ideas Northerners put forward this year.”
