A 43-year-old resident of Iqaluit is facing additional charges relating to offences of a sexual nature following further investigation by police that found the suspect may have committed other crimes against young people.

According to a release from RCMP on Monday, Emmanuel Chofor has been charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm, sexual assault and forcible confinement. The new charges come after Chofor was first charged on Jan. 9 with sexual assault against a youth. During the course of the investigation, police indicated that two additional victims came forward, hence the update from RCMP.

Chofor was remanded in custody and was scheduled to make a court appearance in Iqaluit on Monday.

The release added that police are continuing to investigate to see if there are any other victims. Police also made the decision to release a photo of Chofor to the media and that he may go by aliases such as Yaro or Euro.

RCMP also stated that no further information would be forthcoming in order to protect the identity of the victims.

“We understand the immense bravery required for a sexual assault victim to come forward," stated Cst. Peter Lodge of the Iqaluit RCMP’s General Investigative Section. "This is very much still an active investigation."

If you are a victim, or know of someone who may be a victim, you're asked to contact Iqaluit RCMP at 867-979-0123 or Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477.
