At long last, Iqaluit may soon have a potential solution to its transportation woes.

The entrepreneurial minds behind Nunavut Marketing — Jacinto and Claudio Marques — are starting a 32-seat shuttle bus service, Iqaluit Transit, that will transport passengers from Apex to the airport with multiple stops in between. The plan is to launch within the next couple of months.

The service will be available on weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will be closed on Sundays.

Fares will be $8 per person, although children under 10 can ride for free.

Customers will also be able to reload purchasable cards online, which they can then tap when they get onto the bus for entry. The fare with a card with be $5.

There are also monthly fares available for groups entitled to unlimited rides.

The bus will be accessible to those with disabilities, offers GPS location stops and will be equipped with security cameras and personnel for passenger safety.

An Iqaluit Transit website is expected to be up and running soon.
