Hello from the island of splash and water. Yes, spring came very early for residents of Cambridge Bay.

With very early spring weather, a lot of the snow has melted already and the ocean, lakes, rivers and ponds have already melted and are full of water. There's not much time left for ice fishing this year — the ice is melting too fast.

Most of the snow in the community has already melted. For hunters and fishers, it's much too early and melting too quickly this year. Usually, living on the island, snow and ice melts are a lot later and slower as our weather is much colder. But not this year. My favourite time of year is when it is duck and geese-hunting season, when people are busy egg hunting and ice fishing.

Every day and weekends, Inuit are busy travelling on the land and sea and heading out to open up their cabins and summer homes. This year, with way warmer weather and snow and ice disappearing quickly, it makes it difficult for Inuit to harvest their food from the land. Inuit travel on the sea ice, lakes, rivers and ponds and on the land, but being a much warmer temperatures, you have to be careful and make sure to travel with others. Do not travel alone! This is a must when heading out hunting and fishing — always travel with someone else and with communication devices in case of emergencies. Enjoy the fastest spring ever, everyone. Be safe.

A special greeting to our Grade 12 students who were set to graduate on Saturday, June 7. Congratulations to each of you who have succeeded in never giving up or quitting school. You have made it and we're very proud of each of you. To graduate Grade 12 is one of life's greatest achievements a young person can do. With the hard work and support from your teachers, peers, families, community and Elders, it's possible, and each of you did it. Remember first going to Kullik on your very first day of kindergarten? Yes, it's possible to stay in school and not quit. Congratulations!

Now you have the future as an adult to do what your dreams lead you to. Good luck in your future plans. Look after yourselves and look out for one another. Be kind and be happy, and what you do in life will be up to you with the love and support from your families and loved ones. We are so proud of you. You are so lucky to be graduating in your own hometown without being sent away to residential school, which many of your parents and grandparents had to go through. Look after your Elders and communities as you go through life. Home will always be there for you. We love each of you and are so very proud of each of you. Stay well. Live a good life.

God Be With You Son. Your son is graduating and your granddaughter is home in Kugluktuk. Both are well.
