Two men in Iqaluit are facing multiple charges after police confiscated a prohibited firearm.

The investigation began on Jan. 1, according to a police news release issued on May 3. The RCMP's National Weapons Enforcement Team was called upon after Mounties in Iqaluit seized the gun bearing a serial number that had been tampered with.

Eventually, the serial number was identified and two suspects were located and arrested.

Jordan Kovic, 24, who is currently in custody, is charged with possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm while not being the holder of a licence, possession of a firearm knowing that its serial number had been removed or altered and possession of a firearm while being prohibited from doing so by a court order.

Juston Vincent, 26, is charged with possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm while not being the holder of a licence and possession of a firearm knowing that its serial number had been removed or altered.

The next court appearance for the accused is scheduled for June 12 in Iqaluit.

"The RCMP would like to remind members of the public that tampering, modifying and possessing prohibited firearms is highly dangerous and is a serious criminal offence," the news release reads.
