Numerous people passed on their condolences following the death of highly-respected Whale Cove community leader Percy Kabloona on Nov. 9, 2024.

The hamlet of Whale Cove lost a community leader when Percy Kabloona passed away in November.

Kabloona passed away in his sleep on Nov. 9 at age 64. He was laid to rest on Dec. 1.

Local wildlife officer Oliver Spear said it was with deep sadness that the community acknowledges the passing of Kabloona, a former mayor of Whale Cove.

He said Kabloona was a respected leader and a cherished member of the community, known for his dedication to improving the lives of those around him.

During his time as mayor, he worked tirelessly to promote the well-being and growth of Whale Cove, always putting the needs of his people first,” said Spear.

His legacy of service, kindness and commitment will be remembered by all who knew him.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family, friends and the entire community during this difficult time.

Percy Kabloona’s contributions have left an indelible mark and he will be greatly missed.”

Former Whale Cove mayor Stanley Adjuk was one of many who made an emotional post to social media the day Kabloona was laid to rest on Dec. 1. Adjuk said the community laid its friend to rest that day.

He said Kabloona will be missed.

I have good memories of him, as he was in Whale Cove as long as I remember,” said Adjuk.

We took lots of hunting trips together, travelled to other communities by snowmobile and went to other communities to go square dancing. We had our ups and downs towards each other, but we never broke our friendship.

He got me into politics in 1992 and he helped me any way (he could), especially with fixing trucks, ATVs and snowmobiles. And, when he had it, he never hesitated to give you a part that you needed.

R.I.P. Percy Kabloona. You will be missed.”
