P.J. Akeeagok has resigned as president of the Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA).
The QIA issued a news release Tuesday morning making an official announcement, although Akeeagok’s resignation was effective as of Aug. 6.
He served as president since 2014 and was re-elected in 2018.
“We thank president Akeeagok for his years of service to the Qikiqtani egion. His hard work has improved the lives of Qikiqtani Inuit and is a legacy to be proud of,” said acting QIA vice-president Olayuk Akesuk, who will temporarily assume the office of president until the QIA’s board of directors can meet to set direction.
