A developing blizzard shut down buildings in Rankin Inlet Dec. 1 and is affecting much of the Kivalliq region.

Environment Canada issued a warning that forecast long-lasting blizzard conditions caused by a slow-moving, low pressure system in eastern Hudson Bay, causing winds gusting up to 80 kilometres per hour today and tonight.

Rankin Inlet, Whale Cove and Chesterfield Inlet are expected to see visibility improvements Thursday.

Travel is expected to be extremely hazardous due to the low visibility.

This submitted video from Taina Aliyak Kubluitok shows the low visibility in Rankin on Wednesday.
