A 28-year-old man in Clyde River has been charged after the RCMP issued a "shelter in place" order during negotiations with an individual in a home who was reported to be armed on Jan. 28.
Officers were alerted to a "distraught man" who was reported to have a firearm during the early morning hours of Jan. 28. They were told that he was threatening to shoot the police.
The RCMP advised people in Clyde River to take shelter, located the man in a residence and began negotiating with him. The individual surrendered to the Mounties at approximately 8:15 a.m. The "shelter-in-place" alert was then lifted.
On Jan. 29, Travis Kautaq was charged with uttering threats to cause death and possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence.
Kautaq was released from custody and his next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 24 in Clyde River.
