With more than four weeks passing since the last active case of COVID-19 at Baffinland’s Mary River mine, Nunavut chief public health officer Dr. Michael Patterson has declared the COVID outbreak over at the mine site.
All mine workers are out of isolation and the mine is permitted to resume normal operations. The company had suspended operations at Mary River as of May 5 due to the virus spreading among staff.
The Department of Health advised in June that individuals who leave Mary River on or after June 21 are being instructed to contact their local public health authorities after arriving at their destination. They are also advised to self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms and to contact a health professional if symptoms are detected.
Anyone who has reason to believe they have been exposed to COVID-19 is advised to call the COVID-hotline at 1-888-975-8601 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. EST, or notify their community health centre right away, and immediately isolate at home. Please do not go to the health centre in person unless advised to do so.
