Ethan Tassiuk is on his way to Ottawa to receive a Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers from the Governor General at Rideau Hall on Thursday, April 21.

“It is going to be a fantastic time,” said Tassiuk, who is en route to the south to receive the award later this week and looking forward to the event.

“Since 2012, Ethan Dustin Kablutsiak Tassiuk has been using film and television to combat systemic social concerns in his community,” wrote the Governor General’s office in a news release.

“As a member of the Arviat Film Society, he has advocated for youth resilience and community engagement, and fostered open discussions on sexual health awareness and bullying.”

Because of you, I am now a TV Host in my hometown. I’m so happy and glad to be your best friend. You told me about Arviat Film Society before and it was so interesting. That’s when I started to plan on being a Host to my fellow people. And my dream came true! All because of you.
