Baker Lake RCMP and the Nunavut Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating a fire that broke out at the Magnetic Observatory on Tuesday.

The Baker Lake Fire Department was extinguishing the blaze when the police arrived at the scene.

A Wednesday morning news release by the RCMP didn’t state that extent of the damage to the building, which is property of the Government of Canada. The observatory was constructed to aid in geomagnetic field observations.
