The City of Iqaluit announced on Nov. 19 they have successfully removed the historic fuel storage tank right beside the water treatment plant, under the direction of Qikiqtaaluk Environmental.

“The identification and subsequent removal of the historical tank is a relief. It is reassuring that the source of the contamination has been removed. This is an important milestone in resolving the issues our community is facing, as a result of the water quality emergency,” said Amy Elgersma, Iqaluit’s chief administrative officer.

The removal of the fuel storage tank is another step in the remediation process, a do not consume advisory remains in place for Iqaluit’s tap water.
