Mark Wyatt, president of Rankin Inlet’s Royal Canadian Legion Branch #169, has been involved in Remembrance Day ceremonies pretty much since he moved to the community.

“I think it should be important to all Canadians,” he said ahead of the 2023 ceremony, scheduled for doors to open at 10:30 a.m. and the event to begin at 11 a.m. at the community hall Saturday, Nov. 11.

“Remembrance Day is a time when we remember people who fought and lost their lives to support Canada. Especially with the way the world is going now, we’ve got forces that are in peacekeeping missions where people are still killed. War is never going to go away, unfortunately.”

He said the Canadian Rangers would be participating this year, and the event is expected to be a bit more “full force” without any Covid precautions.

The annual event typically sees speeches, a moment of remembrance and laying of wreaths in honour of those who have fallen defending Canada.
