Natan Obed will embark on another term as president of Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK) as he was the only candidate to meet nomination requirements.

The deadline for nominations closed on Aug. 18 at 5 p.m.

Obed, who will serve a four-year term, was first elected to the position in September 2015.

ITK’s annual general meeting is scheduled to take place from Sept. 29 to 30 at the Aqsarniit Hotel and Conference Centre in Iqaluit, “in strict accordance with public health guidelines.”

The organization represents Inuit across Canada, most of whom reside in Inuit Nunangat, which comprises Nunavut, Nunavik (northern Quebec) the Inuvialuit Settlement Region (Northwest Territories) and Nunatsiavut (Northern Labrador).

Inuit Nunangat makes up nearly one-third of Canada’s landmass and 50% of its coastline, according to ITK.
