Louis Tapardjuk of Iglulik will serve a second three-year term as a member of Inuit Uqausinginnik Taiguusiliuqtiit (IUT), Nunavut’s language authority.
He will be joined by Salomie Qitsualik of Gjoa Haven on the seven-member committee.
Languages Minister Margaret Nakashuk announced the appointments on Nov. 9.
“These appointments bring strength to the IUT’s leadership and complement the skills and knowledge of the existingmembers,” Nakashuk stated.
The IUT, an arm’s-length body from the Government of Nunavut, was established under the Inuit Language Protection Act to make decisions regarding Inuktut on behalf of Nunavummiut. Members of the body are required to be fluent in Inuktut, be knowledgeable of dialects and possess traditional or academic language expertise.
