AROUND KIVALLIQ: School lends helping hand

Rankin Inlet

Students and staff members at Simon Alaittuq School (SAS) raised $600 in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the Humboldt, Sask., tragedy during a special Jersey Day at the school in Rankin Inlet on April 13.

While SAS is one of the smallest schools in the territory, the students showed themselves as having some of the biggest hearts in raising the $600, wrote principal Bev Hill in a press release.

One student came with 60 cents and put it towards the cause (students were asked to bring $1, if they could),” wrote Hill.

Out of a terrible tragedy, our students learned empathy and the strength of many working together for a common cause.”
