Tapatai started Peter's Expediting, which has been serving the Kivalliq region since 1998. He's also well known for his contributions to the Inuit Broadcasting Corporation, including the iconic fictional character Super Shamou.

“This year’s recipient of the Order of Nunavut is well-known throughout the territory for his commitment to sustainable community economic development, Inuit entrepreneurship and cultural pride,” Speaker Paul Quassa announced on Monday.

The date of Tapatai's investiture is yet to be determined.

The Order of Nunavut was established in 2010.

"The objective of the Order is to recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the territory. The Order is the highest honour of Nunavut and takes precedence over all other orders, decorations or medals conferred by the Government of Nunavut," according to the legislative assembly.
