Bringing home the beluga

Hunters in pursuit of beluga boated to Southampton Island in early August and most got what they were looking for, according to Mayor Timoon Toonoo.

“They had quite a bit of success,” Toonoo said. “They brought back quite a bit of maktaaq and people in the community were happy, I think.”

Toonoo and his brother were among those successful hunters. A community member made a public post on Facebook last week thanking the Toonoos for sharing their catch.

“We appreciated your kindness very much,” she wrote.
