I love you Ollie! Welcome back Ollie! 2020 Omingmak Frolics are cancelled this year in Cambridge Bay due to the Covid-19. But the community held a social-distancing parade to celebrate on Saturday, May 16, 2020. Even though there was a snow storm the parade went on as it was still warm temperatures. The little sweethearts, four-year-old Inuk Kamingoak, left, and Juniper Kailek Nanegoak, were so exicted and happy to see Ollie again.

Welcome to Cambridge Bay, Nunavut where there is more snow and more snow and more snow. In the past week there has been so much more snow falling and warm winds, warmer days which melts the snow then cools off and freezes up the puddles and then gets all slippery again. So please be careful and make sure Elders and children and everyone else are safe while walking or driving.

The Ambrose Aknavigak Memorial Fishing Derby has been extended to May 22 due to weather conditions and too many snow storms lately. Cash prizes are being given out for different size categories. Good luck to everyone. Winners will be announced soon.

The Soup for The Soul continues to be served Monday to Friday during the pandemic from the Wellness Centre and Qillaq Lodge workers out of the community hall. Soon the food will be discontinued but residents in need of food can go to the food bank located at the Wellness Centre. You are to call 983-4670 to make arrangements.

Kids grab and go lunches are still being distributed out of the entrance of Kiilinik High School. Residents are very thankful for lunches being provided to students of all ages and also to members of the community. Quana Kelli and others who help feed our community, especially our children.

The annual Omingmak Frolics parade was held on Saturday, May 16 with approximately 26 vehicles, ATVs, side-by-sides, truck and fire trucks all took part to drive around the snow storm to bring the spirit back with Ollie, the muskox mascot during this pandemic. The kids and families were all so happy to see Ollie again!

This year the annual spring festival was cancelled due to the coronavirus. It is sad to not have our fun of games, music, feasts, dances, etc. but it is all to keep safe and avoid the virus which is happening all over the world. Hopefully next year we can have the best ever 2021 Omingmak Frolics. Next year it will be 45th anniversary of the festival. I remember when it used to be called Sports Day and then one year in the 70's a naming contest to name the festival was held and the winner was Bill Lyall who named the festival. Hi Bill! What did you ever win? Remember?

Everyone is doing well here, please stay safe and keep washing your hands and keep social distancing to avoid this powerful virus that is all over the world. Keep up with daily announcements as to what is happening. Stay safe everyone.

God Be With You Son.
