Children in Resolute may not be ready to return to school but many of them are eagerly visiting school grounds.
New playground equipment was erected earlier this month.
“It looks fantastic. It's a long time coming. I'm so glad it's there because the last one was at least 25 years old and it was not up to standards,” said Ameela Aqiatusuk, a member of Resolute's district education council, which requested the replacement equipment. “The children love it. I've seen at least 10 to 15 kids hanging around there in the past two days.”
Illutsataarik Building Supplies, a registered Inuit firm, installed the slide and various climbing apparatuses, according to the Department of Education. The playground set is known as “Mighty Mouse” and was manufactured Blue Imp Ltd.
The equipment was shipped during last year's sealift. The total cost of the goods, freight and installation was close to $200,000, a Department of Education official stated.
Qarmartalik School had 44 full-time and part-time students registered in 2018-19.
