Welcome to Christmas season in the beautiful snowy town of Cambridge Bay. Weather has been much milder than usual, and that is okay for most residents here. Lots of snow, though, and lots of snowmobiles with the fresh powdered snow, but the roads are still icy and slippery, so always be careful.
You can see some fishermen and hunters heading out towards the mainland and other hunting and fishing spots, more lately because of the warmer weather we are having. Daylight is so short now but the moonlight has been shining down when it is not cloudy or not too much ice fog. It seems we have more ice fog lately, I think because of warmer temperatures on the island.
Merry Christmas comes early for Cambridge Bay! We had a fun Christmas parade last week and we had a few floats participating, quana to all those who entered the parade, we even saw Santa already.
School students will begin their Christmas break Friday, December 15 at noon and return to school Thurs., Jan. 4, 2018 at 8:45 a.m.
It will be fun this year once again with lots of games and activities set for residents of all ages. Lots of prizes, feasts, and many laughs I am sure. Get out and enjoy the fun and entertainment, which starts Monday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. at Kiilinik High School hosted by the day care.
The schedule is almost done and will be available on Tuesday, Dec. 12. Watch for lots of events happening for all ages in beautiful Cambridge Bay.
Quana to Ekaluktutiak Hunters' and Trappers' Organization for the distribution and sharing of tuktu, muskox, Arctic char, lake trout, and whitefish to elders and community members. It is such a joy to see them still carrying on the tradition of distributing around the community, especially to our elders who are unable to go out hunting as much. I get a big smile and happy heart to see elders receiving their country foods. Quana so much to Beverly Maksagak, our EHTO Manager, and to the hunters and fishermen for everything, keep up the good work and quana, quana, quana.
