Iqaluit Mayor Kenny Bell announced Tuesday that he’s joining Pond Inlet MLA David Qamaniq, Nunavut Senator Patterson and MP Mumilaaq Qaqqaq in a call for police body cameras in Iqaluit and throughout Nunavut.
“It is about the safety of everyone involved and with this addition to the uniform; we will help protect the service members and citizens at the same time,” Bell stated in a news release.
The mayor said he plans to bring the issue forward at the Iqaluit council meeting on June 9. He also plans to seek a resolution on the topic through the Nunavut Association of Municipalities’ executive board in the coming weeks.
