Fatal hit and run occurs in Arviat

The RCMP responded to a report of a deceased male on an Arviat roadway in the early morning hours on Wednesday.

The initial investigation by the police, started shortly after 3 a.m., revealed that the victim was run over by a vehicle that failed to stop at the scene. The RCMP located a driver shortly thereafter who they consider a suspect.

The investigation is ongoing with assistance from the V Division Major Crimes Unit, D Division (Manitoba) traffic analysts and the Nunavut Coroner’s Office.

The police say further information will be provided once it is available.
