Federal grants of up to $25,000 available for seniors projects

Nunavut proposal writers should be aware that the 2020-21 New Horizons for Seniors Program funding will soon be available.

Organizations that haven't received funding from the federal program in the past five years could be eligible for a grant of up to $5,000. Community-based projects could reel in a grant of up to $25,000.

This year's priorities for funding under the seniors program are projects that:

-Support healthy aging

-Prevent Elder abuse and fraud

-Combat ageism, celebrate diversity and promote inclusion

-Improve seniors’ access to government services and benefits

-Adapt community-based organizations to a more virtual environment

“We are investing in community support projects across the country to help seniors stay connected and engaged. Seniors have experienced significant negative impacts as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. We want to help local organizations — big and small — provide relevant support to seniors of all backgrounds,” said Deb Schulte, federal minister responsible for seniors.

Proposals will be accepted until Oct. 20. Details on how to submit applications can be found at:
