One of the accounts has a goal of $20,000. As of the time this post was published, $10,565 had been donated.
The other account is aiming to raise $5,000. It stood at $1,115 in contributions as of late Tuesday afternoon.
Qavvik, who was in her mid-30s, gave birth to a daughter in late November in a Winnipeg hospital. She was diagnosed with Covid-19 shortly thereafter. Although she recovered from the virus, her organs were severely damaged, according to her father, Johnnie Cookie.
“We were told by the doctor that she was Covid-free because Covid had disappeared from her,” said Cookie. “But because the Covid was a very serious illness, she had to be on a ventilator all this time and she passed away (Saturday).”
Her baby survived.
The creator of one of the GoFundMe accounts describes Qavvik as “a fun, kind, caring, and bright person… her giggle was contagious, she was always happy.”
