More than 30 people took part in an Iglulik fishing derby May 17-May 20, and the winners were rewarded with cash prizes.

Nicolas Akittirq took home a $1,000 cheque for the heaviest fish caught around Iglulik Island. Emma Quassa won $500 for second place.

In the category Iqalulikuluk lake fish, Lucas Panimera turned in the heaviest fish and claimed the $1,000 cheque. Susan Qamaniq earned $500 as the runner-up.

Cod and char were among the most common fish caught.

“The fishing derby was great,” said Iglulik recreation coordinator Qumangaapik Arnatsiaq. “The weather was perfect.”
