Beginning July 2, the City of Iqaluit offices will reopen to the public. The public can pay utility bills and conduct other city business in-person at Arnaitok Complex Building #2425.

City Hall will be open Monday to Friday. Public hours are from 10 a.m to 12 p.m and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. For the month of July, elders and “those with special requirements” may visit the facility between 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., Monday to Friday.

Nunavummiut are still encouraged to conduct business online or by phone. Iqaluit’s finance department can be reached at the following numbers: 979-5665 or 979-5606 for utilities and 979-5602 and 979-5606 for property taxes and land lease concerns. Inquiries can also be sent to Accountsreceivable@Iqaluit.ca.

The municipality has put measures in place to adhere to social distancing protocols for Covid-19, stated Friday’s new release from the City of Iqaluit.

Any visitors exhibiting Covid-19 symptoms will not be permitted to enter city facilities, however.

City council's meetings are scheduled to be held in council chambers beginning July 14. Only councillors and support staff are permitted to attend in-person. The public can listen to the meeting via stream at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDwLQAFnruiIuIa8perf1BA

The Arnaitok Arena remains closed to the public, but the Aquatic Centre will reopen on July 10 at 6:30 a.m. The pool will be reopened for lane swim only. The Pita Shack Restaurant within the facility will also be open, but for takeout only.

On July 20, the Fitness Centre will reopen for solo workouts only. Drop-in classes and pre-registered programs will not be available by this time. The hot tub and sauna will also remain closed.

It is yet to be determined when the pool will be open to family and public swims, according to the news release.

In order to use facilities at the Aquatic Centre, reservations are required. Individuals must make reservations online for one-hour lane swim and/or solo workouts. Reservations can be made at https://cityofiqaluitrecreation.maxgalaxycanada.net/BrowseActivities.aspx

Reservations will open every Sunday at 11 a.m. for annual pass holders and at 12 p.m. for the community. Each week there will be 64 one-hour sessions available. Each individual is limited to reserving five sessions per week, with a maximum of one session per day.

“Reserving your session will allow the facility to maintain our limited capacity. Limiting our capacity helps with physical distancing and prevents the spread of Covid-19,” stated the news release.

Annual pass holders must sign in with their online login information. Anyone who does not have a login can request it from guest services.

No refunds will be given for missed sessions. For more information call guest services at 867-975 8544 or email aquaticcentre@iqaluit.ca.

The Makkuttukkuvik Youth Centre facility will remain closed for July. However, beginning July 9 outdoor programming at Arctic Winter Games Complex will be offered for teens aged 13-18.

Weather permitting, the Makkuttukkuvik Youth Centre will host programming every Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The official summer activity schedule will be released July 6.

For more information, contact youth coordinator Justin Tambogan at 867-979-5620 or email at J.Tambogan@iqaluit.ca

“With the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, we are taking every precaution to mitigate the risk of its spread while also providing programming to as many youth as possible. Our staff are here to support and help young people understand their role and responsibilities through this pandemic, and are looking forward to working with them again this summer,” stated the news release.
