A 48-year-old Iqaluit man has been charged with several firearms-related offences after a standoff with the RCMP on Saturday that lasted several hours.
The Mounties also seized multiple firearms from the residence. The guns were allegedly not properly secured and stored in a safe manner.
“There remains to be a significant concern around the safe handling and storage of firearms in our communities across Nunavut. We are all responsible to ensure firearms and ammunition are secured and properly stored. Let’s all do our part and help keep Nunavummiut safe,” states a news release issued by RCMP Cpl. Jamie Savikataaq on Tuesday afternoon.
