Karen Kabloona has been hired as CEO of land claims organization Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated.
She'll start the job on Dec. 3, becoming NTI's first female chief executive officer.
Kabloona is a former associate deputy minister with the GN's Quality of Life division, tasked with responding to Nunavut's suicide crisis. She helped develop a five-year action plan.
While working with the GN since 2004, she also served as a political adviser to two cabinet ministers and two premiers. She was unsuccessful in her 2017 bid to become Baker Lake MLA, losing to incumbent Simeon Mikkungwak.
Kabloona, also known as Kilikvak, was born and raised in Baker Lake. She has a bachelor of commerce degree, attained at the University of Calgary. She is a founding member of the Qanak Collective, an organization that fosters Inuit leadership.
