Close to 30 delegates from the five Kitikmeot communities, as well as a few guests from elsewhere, are gathering in Cambridge Bay this week for the Kitikmeot Youth Empowerment Gathering.
Although there have been numerous conference and workshops involving youth over the years, “this is the first gathering (where) we have been able to secure resources needed exclusively for a Youth Empowerment Gathering,” said Sarah Jancke, the KIA’s director of social and cultural development.
The gathering will also be an opportunity for some delegates to meet Presley Taylor, KIA’s new youth coordinator.
Workshops will take place in the Patrick Lyall board room in the Kitikmeot Inuit Association’s administrative building. The KIA, the GN and the federal government are event sponsors.
