Mail theft investigation in Iqaluit yields arrest

A 42-year-old male is charged with one count of theft from mail, and is to appear at the Nunavut Court of Justice in Iqaluit Feb. 25, 2019.

The arrest follows a joint investigation by Nunavut RCMP's federal operations section and Canadian postal inspectors.

"The investigation commenced after postal inspectors received several reports of non-receipt of mail within the Iqaluit community," according to the news release.

Cst. Danielle Pollock said RCMP could not say at this point what happened to any stolen mail, saying the federal investigation is ongoing.

More information is unlikely until the disclosure process in February, said Pollock.

Canada Post did not immediately respond to an inquiry.
