Netsilik MLA Emiliano Qirngnuq pressed Netser for details on the GN’s efforts to remove mould from 15 houses in his constituency communities of Taloyoak and Kugaaruk. Netser replied that his department has been “collecting data” and has “assessed units that we want to remediate,” but provided no timeline for the work.

Qirngnuq said preventing mould infestations must be a priority in Nunavut. He cited a 2018 Report of the Auditor General that identified issues with heat recovery ventilators causing mould to build-up. Qirngnuq asked what’s been done.

Netser said the Housing Corporation is working with local housing organizations and it will take more time to respond.

The minister added that he just received a copy of a departmental report on preventing and combatting household mould, in the works since last year. That report will be tabled in the House in the future, said Netser.
