Scholarship deadline

Kivalliq students are reminded that they have until March 31 to apply for one of the full scholarships available for 40 youth across the North to participate in the Students on Ice (SOI) 2018 Arctic Expedition taking place this coming summer from July 21 to Aug. 7.

SOI is an award-winning organization taking high school and university students from around the world on the educational journey of a lifetime to explore the eastern Canadian Arctic and western Greenland.

With the support of SOI's partners, a majority of the participants on the organization's Arctic Expeditions are fully funded to participate.

More than 40 per cent of student-and-staff participants are from the circumpolar Arctic, with a majority from Canada's North.

Since SOI began 18 years ago, more than 2,700 students and educators from 52 countries have participated in its transformational journeys.

They form an alumni family that is connected by their experiences, and provides ongoing support to fellow expeditioners as mentors, teachers and lifelong friends.

The community of Chesterfield Inlet welcomes everyone across the Kivalliq region to come to the community for the Joy Joy Gospel Music Festival from April 5-8.

An impressive list of gospel performers in being put together for the four-day event in Chester.
