Pangnirtung man dies following collision

A Pangnirtung man died after being struck by a vehicle in Ottawa the evening of Aug. 29.

"Gordon Pitseolak, 22, was struck by a vehicle as he attempted to cross the multiple-lane highway near St. Laurent Boulevard on foot," state Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in a news release July 30.

The tragedy occurred on Highway 417. Police state Pitseolak attempted to run across the highway.

The Ottawa detachment of the OPP responded to the fatal collision at approximately 10:33 p.m.

"He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased," said OPP acting Sgt. Tina Hunt via e-mail.

Multiple lanes of the highway were closed as a result, with the ministry of Transportation assisting with traffic control. The Ottawa Police Service assisted in identifying Pitseolak.

The investigation is ongoing and the OPP has asked anyone with information to contact police.
