Pond Inlet man accused of pointing rifle at police, domestic assault

While responding to a complaint of domestic violence, RCMP say they wound up staring down the barrel of a rifle at a Pond Inlet home on July 27.

The police state that they found the complainant in the case on a road where she alleged that her spouse had assaulted her. The Mounties went to the home where the accused was located and, after knocking at the door, they say a man responded by pointing a rifle at them.

The police quickly took cover and proceeded to talk to the accused, eventually arresting him without further incident. They say they found that the rifle was loaded and two weapons were seized from the residence.

The accused, 35, faces charges of assault, two counts of pointing a firearm, two counts of assaulting a police officer and storing a firearm in a careless manner.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Pond Inlet in September.
