Presumptive Covid case on inbound flight to Iqaluit confirmed negative

The passenger whose Covid test returned positive Wednesday morning while on an inbound flight to Iqaluit from Ottawa is now confirmed to be a false positive as further test results came back negative.

The presumptive positive Covid-19 case earlier today was isolated at the Qikiqtani General Hospital in Iqaluit. The individual, a medical traveller, was later determined to be negative for the virus. Trevor Wright/NNSL photo

"Today, at approximately 3 p.m., I was informed tests given to the passenger from Ottawa earlier today have come back negative," said Nunavut's chief public health officer Dr. Michael Patterson in a statement.

All passengers aboard the Canadian North flight FAB101 from Ottawa have now been cleared by Public Health.

Patterson reiterated the need to stay vigilant and to follow current public health measures in place and to get the vaccine as soon as possible.

"Covid-19 is still a very real risk to our communities, and we must make certain we are prepared," he said.
