A nine-month-old infant is in stable condition after being sent by medevac to a Winnipeg hospital with a bullet wound, according to the RCMP.
The infant was struck by gunfire in an adjacent room of a residence on Tuesday, the RCMP stated in a news release.
There was no mention of charges filed in the police news release. However, Rankin Inlet RCMP and the RCMP Winnipeg Forensic Identification Section continue to investigate this serious matter.
“I cannot stress enough of the importance of keeping your guns secured properly
and that ammunition is stored away from the firearm," stated Cpl. Jamie Savikataaq. "When firearms and ammunition are easily accessible and an individual is not in the right place of mind -- the results can be damaging and life-altering. This was a nine-month-old
infant who deserves a safe and secure environment. It’s the law to keep your
firearms secured and locked.”
