There’s been yet another set of charges laid against a Rankin Inlet resident for impaired driving.
That marks the seventh individual in the community to land in the court system for impaired driving allegations since the beginning of June, according to the RCMP.
The most recent incident involved a man whom a bylaw officer reportedly observed driving an all-terrain vehicle erratically on July 15 at around 2:30 a.m. The accused was on the roadway near the RCMP detachment parking lot.
The RCMP got involved, attempting to make a traffic stop but they say the accused refused to comply.
The driver eventually came to a stop and tried to make a run for it, according to the police, but they caught and arrested him.
A 20-year-old man is facing impaired driving related criminal charges in connection with this incident. The RCMP did not identify him.
He’s set to appear in court on Aug. 31.
“The Rankin Inlet RCMP appreciate those community members who have assisted with identifying those who are driving impaired and reporting them,” a Friday news release from the Mounties reads.
“The Rankin Inlet RCMP would like to remind residents of the dangers associated with driving while impaired and to continue obeying the rules and laws related to safe driving within the community. The RCMP would like to remind residents impaired driving is a criminal offence regardless of whether is takes place on the road, out on the land or on water if you are operating a vessel.”
