An extensive search is ongoing for a 13-year-old boy from Iglulik who was part of a hunting party that travelled to Itiliq Cove, according to the RCMP.
The teen was hunting caribou with two other youth on Tuesday night but he failed to return to camp after leaving them to hunt on his own. The entire hunting party consisted of nine people who went from Iglulik to Itiliq Cove by boat.
A member of the hunting party used an InReach GPS device to report the missing boy to the International Response Centre. A Hercules aircraft from CFB Trenton assisted with the search on Wednesday evening.
Ground search and rescue teams from Naujaat and Sanirajak, including a helicopter, were unable to travel today due to wind and inclement weather. The Emergency Management Organization is communicating with the hunting party at the site as they continue to search for the boy.
The ground and air search will continue when the weather permits, the RCMP stated.
