A woman died at the Qimaavik Women’s Shelter last week, said Nunavut RCMP in an email to Nunavut News.
“The sudden death is being investigated by the office of the Nunavut Chief Coroner's office,” wrote RCMP.
The death would not be subject to comment, said officials from the women’s shelter in an interview.
The woman appears to have died of natural causes, possibly related to existing medical conditions, said Khen Sagadraca, deputy chief coroner for Nunavut.
The Nunavut Coroner is still investigating her death, and has sent the woman for an autopsy outside of Iqaluit to rule on her official cause of death.
