Happy Easter from Cambridge Bay on Victoria Island, one of world's largest islands. Spring has arrived in our land of snow and ice. It seems a little earlier than other years. Warmer temperatures and more daylight with lots of sunshine gives us much opportunity to spend more time outdoors. Kids are already tanned, we say brown!

This time of year, cabin owners begin heading to their campgrounds to shovel out all that snow to get ready to start camping and being out-on-the-land. This year we have had so much more snow than other years. Makes our land look so beautiful in white.

Students and staff are all out on their spring break and return from their holidays Wednesday, April 24. Our youth have been so busy traveling to different events such as sports events, congratulations to Eekeeluak Avalak on your silver medal for wrestling, and to the Ikaluktutiak Aghaliak dancers, who went to Gjoa Haven Square Dance Showdown and won first place in the youth category. Congratulations to Helen Blewett and her group. A high school student trip overseas, hope they are all having fun. Our youth are on the move and living a healthy lifestyle, which is so positive and nice to see.

Well, our arena and staff have been constantly happy and busy now that it is open after being shut down for a number of months due to mould. There was a few games of senior hockey and our local hockey fans and their families happy to be at the arena again yelling, and screaming and cheering on their teams. It was a short hockey season this year, minor hockey players did not get a chance yet to play at least a game, so see you next season. Public skate and rentals have been busy with our beautiful kids with their parents and friends. Quana to the hamlet staff and renovation contractors for ensuring that the arena get fixed so it is much healthier for all to enjoy.

It was a real pleasure to meet all our drum dancers from across Nunavut who participated in the 2019 Drum Dance Festival. Watching and listening to Pihiit in your beautiful outfits in which our ancestors style wore also. Each evening Cambridge Bay was entertained by songs and drum dance from the festival participants. It was a beautiful week for culture and tradition, which will live on for generations to generations and years on and on. Quana so much to Haogak for all your hard work and commitment to this tradition which is so important to teach our youth. Quana for the memories.

God Be With You Son. Your Son is going camping and hunting this Easter weekend.
