Arctic Sports! The Cambridge Bay Day Camp kids had a chance to practice arctic sports on Cultural Day. Here is Harlem Evans trying out the one-foot high kick. Welcome to Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, land of Arctic char fishing.

Summer seems to be coming to and end as weather has been cooler with winds and rain. It seems like summer is almost done with cooler fall like weather already here.

When it is windy and cooler it is more relaxing without those darn mosquitoes. Hope they are gone already. Since the ice has melted on the Arctic Ocean, many residents have headed out to mainland to go camping, hunting and berry picking, or heading home to their homeland.

It is so wonderful to see photographs from family and friends and quick updates on their trips out to mainland. It looks so green and much warmer than being on the island. But summer holidays for many will soon end as children will be returning to school along with all the teachers and principals.

School is starting up again in Cambridge Bay Aug. 21 for both Kullik Ilihakvik and Kiilinik High School and staff.

We hope everyone had a great summer even during this pandemic. We hope everyone will be safe and that children be taught well on how to stay safe during Covid-19. Every year it is always so exciting to watch our little wee ones just starting school for Kindergarteners.

Some may be very shy and cry or nervous and many will be very very excited and proud parents and grandparents tears as they watch their first time students walking to the classrooms with their new teachers and their assistants. It is always an emotional moment for mothers but also a joyful moment.

We wish each of you all the very best and to be safe always while in school. We are always so proud of our children who stay in school to get their education.

Don't forget your indoor runners/shoes for wearing inside your schools. Good luck kids, we love you all very much.

God Be With You Son.
