Welcome to beautiful Cambridge Bay, land of the Inuinnait on Victoria Island. It has been a very mild welcoming of the winter season — not been extremely cold yet, but soon temperatures will dip below -30 C.

The community of Cambridge Bay is growing so fast, there are houses reaching Water Lake. There is probably more housing being built, which is badly needed in our community.

The Remembrance Day service in Cambridge Bay was held on Monday, Nov. 11, at the community hall. The 3004 Cadet Squadron, Canadian Rangers and RCMP, veterans, Elders and other community members were in attendance. Organizations from Cambridge Bay laid wreaths as part of the ceremony and sang in Inuinnaqtut. Dawn Gillard played Amazing Grace, a most beautiful sound of music on the bagpipes. Refreshments were served after the beautiful service. Rides were provided for Elders by the Hamlet of Cambridge Bay, Quana for the rides for Elders.

Christmas is soon so the annual Christmas bazaar was held at the high school gymnasium with many handmade crafts, goodies, jewelry. Our youth basketball players volunteered to help set up tables and chairs and the youth operated the canteen with snacks. Quana to all the volunteers and Daisy Eyegetok and her hard work making sure the Xmas bazaar went well. The famous Arctic char antipasto was on sale also by Roni Ohokannoak and her family. Everyone looks forward to his most delicious item — it always sells out fast. See you next year, or if there may be another last-chance Xmas bazaar.

As you walk along the shores of the bay and river, you can see residents ice-fishing for cod and fishers out setting nets for trout, white fish and Arctic char. Most delicious fish being shared among the community. Quana to all the fishers willing to share their harvest.

God Be With You Son.
