Hello from the Island of the Inuinnait. Weather is sure warming up, we have had a few days of light snowfalls, which makes it very slippery everywhere so please be very careful when driving or walking. Lots of white-out conditions makes it hard to see so please also wear sunglasses.
Cambridge Bay is gearing up for a few activities for the annual spring festival. The 2021 Umingmak Frolics is happening but with many restrictions due to the pandemic. There will be no gatherings, feasts, or indoor activities to practice social distancing.
Many of the activities and events usually held during the frolics were removed after the chief public health office reviewed and made recommendations, just to be safe. Dr. Patterson encouraged everyone to keep wearing your masks. Keep doing that and our community can be safe and healthy, and to keep washing your hands and your clothes.
I will miss the feasts and dances but there will be online contests going on and please don’t be shy. You might win a great prize, or even just a little one.
Everyone who loves fishing will for sure be entering the Annual Ambrose Aknavigak Fishing Derby as there are some great cash prizes. Good luck, always travel safe and bring safety gear with you, plus you do not have to travel very far in Cambridge Bay just to catch a fish, after all, it is a fishing village.
