Welcome to Cambridge Bay, Nunavut where the sun is not rising now, with more darkness days coming.
On good days when there is no ice fog you can the orange horizon but no sun. It is most beautiful. Also the moon hangs around more and makes our nuna colder.

Here is Rosemary Alatkaik Maksagak wearing her beautiful mother hubbard parka she made, and she made her own puhitaq from attending the Puhitaq Making Workshop held this September in Cambridge Bay. Now 28, she learned to sew at a young age, self-taught at 16, by first using an old sweater to make her oldest son's jacket, then by sitting and watching Elders at the Heritage Center. When she lost her grandmother and great grandmother she gave up and lost interest in sewing, but now has found her way back to it, like many others creating beautiful clothing for winter weather during this pandemic, and now is one of Cambridge Bay's best seamstresses. Way to go Alatkaik!

With colder temperatures it is much convenient for our hunters, trappers and fishers to travel out on the land to harvest country food. During this pandemic it is much more important to make sure we, especially our Elders have a supply of country food.

Quana to our hunters and fishers who always provide for the community. The Elders appreciate it very much.
With Christmas holidays the school children and staff will be on a break starting Dec. 18 at noon and returning Jan. 6 in the morning. We hope you all have a great holiday and be safe.

Remember to keep social distancing and to keep washing your hands and to wear your masks when going out to shop or go out. Be safe and stay well and healthy.

Each year the community of Cambridge Bay plans activities and events for everyone of all ages, but this year it will be different. There will no gatherings in large crowds at the community hall or the school gymnasiums due to the pandemic. This is to keep safe from Covid-19.

The Recreation Department has set up a few activities with social distancing. One of these events is the Christmas lighting contest. Many homes in our community have put up beautiful lights around town, our little Christmas town way up on the Island. It looks so lovely in the dark when it is all lit up.

A Christmas program has been developed by the staff and the Hamlet of Cambridge Bay. Please pick one up at the various locations around town and also online on the Municipality of Cambridge Bay social media page.

Take good care. Remember to abide by the restrictions and always remember to keep washing your hands and wear your mask to keep safe from this pandemic. Do the best you can and be positive and be happy.

God Be With You Son.
